Fishing
The quality of the salmon and sea trout fishing on the Amhuinnsuidhe Estate is unsurpassed. The freshwater loch and river systems are all in remote and beautiful surroundings, yet most are accessible by vehicle or on foot.
Except when the rivers are in spate, most of the fishing is done Hebridean style from a boat. We offer traditional loch-style fishing for up to 10/12 rods from the nine estate boats. We have five resident ghillies to look after guests (seasonal), and their company and thorough knowledge of the area are a major factor in the enjoyment of the day. Many guests return year after year.
Weather and availability of staff permitting, excellent sea fishing is also available to those staying at the castle.
Reawaken your senses at this spectacular hideaway in the Outer Hebrides. The castle and its sporting opportunities are without doubt unique, offering a remarkable and unforgettable experience.

Field sports
The remoteness and wilderness of North Harris provides some of the finest red deer stalking in Scotland. The scenery is spectacular: the landscape is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and characterised by steep descents, rugged crags, soaring braes, plunging waterfalls, sinuous burns and impressive lochs. This is ideal country in which to stalk.
At Amhuinnsuidhe stag stalking takes place from July to October. Some hind stalking may be available from October to February. Two guns can normally be accommodated at any one time.
In Harris we shoot grouse from September as they are a bit later in nesting than on the mainland. There are also snipe around at this time and this offers a good mixed bag. The woodcock start arriving in November, but with the main fall in December and early January. You may want to consider some hind shooting along with the game birds offering a good mix for a week or a half week.

Macnab Challenge at Amhuinnsuidhe Castle
The modern Macnab Challenge – bagging a salmon, stag, and brace of grouse within one day between dawn and dusk – is derived from Buchan’s tale. It is a thrilling test of sporting skill (with a dash of luck thrown in).
